We had a quick over night stop at Sun Valley RV Resort in Sun Valley, AZ. We made our reservation here because they are a Passport America park and it was $35.00 per night. The non Passport America price is $60.00 to $70.00 per night. Had I pulled into this park and they told me the price was $60.00 to $70.00 I would have rolled right out of there.
I would like to think the park is a fixer upper from the original Route 66 days. It does have potential and it looks like the owner is in the process of fixing it up. There was once a motel on the property and there are signs of it being in the process of remodel, there is a long way to go but it looks like he is working on it. There is a playground for kids, it was very retro, which I liked. It looked to be in pretty good shape, maybe some landscaping around it and it would be nice. The owner set up a petrified wood area that was pretty neat, again some landscaping and straightening up and it would be a nice area to walk through. There didn’t appear to be any amenities like the Passport America website said. If there were showers, clubhouse or a store we sure didn’t see them.
I called the morning before we showed up and the owner said he was out of town and to put the money in an envelope and push it through the slot. That was not a problem and worked well for us. While we were there several campers pulled and and drove around trying to find a place to park. They seemed to have a problem finding a full hookup site. Several of them left since the owner was not on site to ask where to park. We had a couple guests come up and ask us if we had the wifi password which we didn’t. We never did see the owner show up.
I would not recommend this park nor would I stay there again. I would be curious to drive by in a couple years and see if it has been fixed up.
